Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph illustrate the percentage of export earnings of a country from year 2015 to 2016. Product categories were written on the X- axis and price in dollar was written on Y-axis. Overall, what stands out from the graph is Petroleum products were rapidly rising as 8.5% as compared to Engineered goods in year 2016. But both shows the upward trend. If we were talked about Gems and Jewellery it showed minor fall of 5.18% in year 2016. Textiles industry showed rapid increase of 15.24% but Agricultural products shows a slight increase of 0.18% in year 2016. In conclusion, bar graph is the easiest method to understand the change in trend either then study the full research articles. This graph showed that many products increase the percentage export earning in year 2016. And only Gems and Jewellery increase in year 2015 and a slight downfall has been observed in year 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the table, such as the growth in Petroleum and the decline in Gems and Jewellery. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear overview of the data. The student struggles to accurately interpret the relationship between the categories, and the inclusion of personal commentary in the conclusion (e.g., 'bar graph is the easiest method') is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 response, which should remain objective and focused solely on the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the transition 'But both shows the upward trend' and the awkward phrasing in the conclusion. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the years 2015 and 2016 effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'rapidly rising' and 'slight increase' are used, but the student struggles with precise terminology related to data reporting. There are errors in word choice, such as 'either then study' instead of 'rather than studying', and the overall range is insufficient to convey the information with the necessary precision for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The graph illustrate', 'both shows', 'Agricultural products shows') and tense inconsistencies ('If we were talked about'). While the student attempts some complex sentence structures, these are often faulty. Punctuation and sentence construction are basic, and the errors occasionally impede the clarity of the information being presented.
