Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The main features are not effectively highlighted, and the data points provided are often confusing or incorrect (e.g., mentioning 'boys' and 'girls' which are not categories in the provided table). The description of the data is repetitive and lacks the analytical depth required for an Academic Task 1 response. The information is presented in a fragmented way, making it difficult to identify the key trends or comparisons between 2015 and 2016. To improve, you must focus on accurately reporting the specific figures and identifying the most significant changes rather than listing them in a disjointed manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. The introduction is poorly formed, and the body paragraphs do not follow a clear progression of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas together, resulting in a disjointed flow. The use of paragraphing is ineffective, as the ideas are not grouped logically. The referencing is also unclear, particularly with the mention of 'boys' and 'girls,' which suggests a misunderstanding of the source material. To improve, use linking words such as 'furthermore,' 'in contrast,' or 'consequently' to connect your sentences and ensure each paragraph has a clear, central focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. There is a significant misuse of terminology, such as 'present' instead of 'percent' and 'germs' instead of 'gems.' The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data effectively. The repetition of basic phrases like 'will be increase' and 'as compare to' indicates a lack of variety. To improve, you should learn specific vocabulary for describing data, such as 'increased by,' 'decreased to,' 'remained stable,' or 'fluctuated.' Additionally, ensure you are using the correct terminology for the categories provided in the chart.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with verb tense (e.g., 'will be increase' instead of 'increased'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to parse. The use of 'present' instead of 'percent' is a recurring error. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, repetitive sentence patterns. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, correct verb tense usage for reporting past data, and ensuring that your sentences are complete and punctuated correctly.
