Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the overall growth in most categories and the specific decline in gems and jewellery. The data is accurately reported, and the comparison between 2015 and 2016 is clear. You have selected key information to support your summary, and the overview provides a concise, accurate summary of the trends. The response is well-structured and covers all parts of the prompt, meeting the criteria for a high band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the data effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'however', and 'Finally' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the information. The progression of ideas is smooth, and each paragraph has a clear focus. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the overview from the detailed analysis, ensuring the information is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a data-reporting task, using terms like 'export earnings', 'generated', 'performed strongly', and 'recorded a decline'. The language is precise and natural. While the vocabulary is sufficient and accurate, it could be further enhanced by incorporating a slightly wider variety of synonyms for 'increase' or 'decrease' to avoid repetition, though the current usage is perfectly adequate for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response displays a good variety of complex structures, such as the use of participial phrases ('rising slightly from...') and subordinate clauses. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is controlled. There is a minor error in the second paragraph: 'textiles experiencing has the most significant growth' should be 'textiles experienced the most significant growth'. Despite this, the majority of your sentences are accurate, and the minor slip does not impede communication.
