Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main features of the data, the analysis is quite brief and lacks a clear overview or summary of the trends. You have listed the figures for 2015 and 2016 but have not fully synthesized the information to make meaningful comparisons. To improve, ensure you provide a clear introductory overview of the main trends and extend your analysis by grouping data points logically rather than just listing them. The under-length nature of the response prevents a higher score as the data is not fully explored.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into three short paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In 2016', but the transitions between sentences could be smoother. The lack of a concluding summary or a more cohesive overview makes the text feel fragmented. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your observations and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'catagories' (categories), 'engneered' (engineered), and 'jewellery' (though spelled correctly, the phrasing 'gems of jewellery' is unnatural). You rely on basic terms like 'made... profit' and 'earning rates'. To improve, incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a growth of', or 'witnessed a decline'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you describe the trends more effectively and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'textiles has the lowest' should be 'textiles had the lowest' (tense consistency), and '70$' should be '$70' (currency symbol placement). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'profit in petroleum products of 3%'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall clarity. Focus on proofreading for tense consistency and standardizing your use of numerical data and currency symbols.
