Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task well. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of petroleum products and the contrasting trends in textiles and gems/jewellery. The data is accurately reported, and the comparison between the two years is clear. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is even more distinct; while you have an overview paragraph, integrating the percentage change data more fluidly into the main body paragraphs alongside the absolute values would create a more cohesive analytical narrative. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from general trends to specific data points. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'furthermore', and 'in terms of' to link ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to avoid a mechanical feel. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, using terms like 'export earnings', 'accounted for', and 'hovered around'. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is generally successful. However, there are minor inaccuracies, such as 'proportion change' (should be 'percentage change') and 'bearing the highest figure' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication. Expanding your range of collocations related to data trends would help elevate this score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the opening complex sentence and the use of 'whereas' to contrast data. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'the table compared' (should be 'compares' to match the present tense of the chart description) and 'only the gems and jewellery items experienced decrease' (missing an article: 'a decrease'). Punctuation is generally sound, though the semicolon usage in the first sentence is incorrect. The majority of your sentences are clear and error-free, and the errors present do not cause any difficulty for the reader.
