Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the data and provided a clear overview. You covered all categories and made relevant comparisons between the two years. The inclusion of specific data points, such as the $61 billion for petroleum and the 15.24% increase for textiles, demonstrates a good grasp of the information. To reach a higher band, ensure that your overview is more integrated; rather than just listing the highest and lowest, try to highlight the most significant trends or contrasts across the entire dataset. Your summary is accurate and addresses all parts of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression from the introduction to the overview and then into detailed body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'furthermore', and 'in terms of' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the general trends from the specific data analysis. The flow of information is smooth, and the relationship between the bar chart and the table is clearly established. The structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'accounted for', 'hovered around', and 'experienced decrease' are used accurately. While the vocabulary is functional and appropriate for an academic report, it lacks a degree of sophistication or 'less common' lexical items that would elevate the response to a higher band. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation, and the language used is natural and fits the context of describing statistical data well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the opening complex sentence and the use of 'while' to contrast data points. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar and punctuation is generally good. There are minor slips, such as 'only the gems and jewellery items experienced decrease' (should be 'a decrease') and 'in both the years' (should be 'in both years'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The grammatical control is solid throughout the text.
