Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the increases in petroleum, engineered goods, and textiles, and the decrease in gems and jewellery. However, the report lacks an overview or summary statement, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The data is presented as a list of individual points rather than a cohesive analysis. Furthermore, the response fails to mention the actual values (the 'value of exports'), focusing only on the percentage changes. To improve, you must include an introductory overview that highlights the general trends and ensure you distinguish between the export values and the percentage changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is written as a single block of text, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of paragraphing, which is a requirement for clear organization. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Another aspect', 'the last but not the least'), they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The progression of ideas is somewhat repetitive, as each sentence follows the same structure: 'In 2016 compared to 2015'. To improve, you should group related information into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'we can see that' and 'as compared to' are used repeatedly throughout the text. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'take a glimpse on' instead of 'take a look at' or 'examine'. The word 'shocking' is too informal and subjective for an academic report. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'experienced a significant decline' or 'showed a marginal increase', and avoid informal or emotive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'On the behalf of the bar diagram' (incorrect prepositional phrase), 'demand of petroleum products has been increased' (incorrect passive voice usage), and 'the last but not the least' (cliché and grammatically unnecessary). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on using a mix of complex sentence structures and ensure subject-verb agreement is consistent. Proofreading for basic punctuation and preposition errors will also help improve your score.
