Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the highest and lowest export categories and noted the percentage changes. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting. For example, you stated agricultural products were 'just above 40%', but the chart shows them at 40 billion. Additionally, the percentage change values are misread; you wrote '5.811' instead of 5.81% and '15.241' instead of 15.24%. These errors in data transcription affect the accuracy of your summary. To improve, ensure you carefully distinguish between currency units (billions) and percentage figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on 2015 and 2016 respectively. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'On the other hand', and 'However' helps to guide the reader through the data. However, the transition in the first paragraph ('whereas, the table depicts...') is grammatically awkward and punctuation is inconsistent. While the progression is generally clear, the mechanical nature of some transitions and the minor errors in referencing data points prevent a higher score. Ensure that your sentences flow more naturally by avoiding fragmented structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'export earnings', 'proportion', and 'spiked'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling. For instance, 'bar garph' is a spelling error, and 'agricultural sectors' is slightly imprecise when referring to product categories. Furthermore, the misuse of numbers (e.g., '5.811' instead of 5.81%) suggests a lack of precision in handling technical data. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology and ensuring that numerical data is transcribed accurately to avoid confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'In 2015, the highest exported goods were... whereas engineered goods were...'. While these structures are generally functional, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Agricultural products were accounted just slightly above 40%' (should be 'accounted for') and 'In Textile, the values of these products spiked' (should be 'In the textile sector'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage.
