Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to clearly distinguish between the two different datasets provided (percentage change vs. absolute value). The description of the data is often confusing; for example, stating that petroleum products increased by '3% of Engineered goods' is mathematically unclear and inaccurate. The main features are not effectively highlighted, and the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the trends. The information provided is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 2015 and 2016. To improve, focus on clearly separating the two sets of data and using precise terminology to describe the changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. The paragraphs are poorly defined, and the transition between the discussion of percentage changes and absolute values is abrupt. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; the text relies on repetitive phrases like 'if we look into' and 'for around'. The progression of information is not clear, and the lack of proper paragraphing makes the response feel like a collection of disjointed sentences rather than a cohesive report. Using linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' would help improve the flow and logical connection between the points made.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'gave good results' and 'massive between both years' are imprecise and do not demonstrate the range required for higher bands. There are also issues with word choice, such as using 'raise' instead of 'rise' or 'increase'. The student struggles to use academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant growth'. To improve, the student should learn specific collocations for describing data, such as 'a marginal increase', 'a sharp decline', or 'remained constant'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'increase... for around 67 billion'). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are also problematic. The range of grammatical structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some awkward attempts at complexity. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree will help improve the accuracy of the writing.
