Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While you have attempted to identify some main features, the analysis is incomplete and lacks a clear summary of the data provided in the table. The description of the line chart is fragmented, and the figures mentioned (e.g., '50, 40 and 35') appear to be misinterpretations of the data, as they do not align with the provided chart values. To improve, ensure you cover all categories and provide a more accurate comparison of the trends between 2015 and 2016.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, 'In terms of the line chart' is a standard opening, but the subsequent sentences lack the necessary linking words to connect the data points effectively. The referencing is also unclear, particularly when discussing the table versus the chart. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'number of' and 'changed'. There are also issues with word choice and spelling, such as 'en gin goods' (likely meant 'engineered goods') and 'genes' (likely meant 'gems'). The phrase 'significant rose' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'significant rise'. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal increase', and ensure accurate spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as the run-on sentence in the introduction and the fragmented nature of the data reporting. Subject-verb agreement and word form errors are common, such as 'petroleum products export the number of' and 'significant rose'. While there is an attempt at complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread for common errors like incorrect verb tenses and word forms.
