Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the response is incomplete; it cuts off abruptly at the end of the second body paragraph while discussing gems and jewellery. Because the analysis is unfinished, the main features are not fully reported, and the comparison is not developed as required. To improve, you must ensure you complete the summary of all data categories and meet the length requirement. Currently, the response only provides a partial overview and begins to describe the first two categories before stopping, preventing a full response to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and the start of a body paragraph. However, because the text is incomplete, the overall progression is interrupted. Cohesive devices are used in the introduction and overview, such as 'Overall' and 'In addition', which help structure the initial thoughts. However, the abrupt ending makes the logical flow impossible to evaluate fully. To improve, ensure that your writing is complete and that you use a wider range of cohesive devices to link your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly, ensuring that the transition between the overview and the detailed body paragraphs is smooth.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'export earnings', and 'proportions change'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'billionns', 'witneesed', and '1015' (instead of 2015). These errors, while not always impeding communication, detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response. To reach a higher band, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal decline', rather than relying on simpler phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'proportions change' (should be 'proportional change'), 'engineered goods worth the most' (missing a verb), and 'both had increases' (should be 'both had increased'). Additionally, there is a lack of subject-verb agreement in some places. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors limit the score. To improve, focus on proofreading your work to catch basic tense and agreement errors, and practice using a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
