Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 74 words long. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed. The student provides an introduction and a brief overview, but fails to include the body paragraphs necessary to report the main features or make detailed comparisons of the data provided in the table. Because the response is significantly under-length and lacks the required analysis of the data, it cannot be considered a complete response to the task instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt to structure the introduction and an overview, the lack of body paragraphs means there is no development of the information. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited way, such as 'While' and 'whereas', but the overall arrangement is insufficient to demonstrate a coherent response to the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is somewhat repetitive and occasionally imprecise. Phrases like 'elucidates the information regarding the cost of specific nations export income' are awkward and do not accurately reflect the data provided. While the student attempts to use academic vocabulary such as 'proportion' and 'alternation', the range is limited by the brevity of the text. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuation', 'growth', or 'decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are noticeable errors. For instance, 'the tabular chart illustrates alternation took place in proportion' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'illustrates the alternation that took place'. Additionally, 'all categories started following upward trend' is missing an article ('an'). Due to the limited length, it is difficult to assess a wide range of grammatical structures, but the existing sentences show a lack of control over complex syntax and article usage.
