Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1. It lacks a clear overview of the main trends and focuses on subjective commentary rather than objective reporting. For example, describing a 5.18% decrease as a 'bad raise' and stating that it will 'infect this sector' is inappropriate for an academic report, which requires neutral, data-driven analysis. While the figures are mentioned, the lack of a formal structure and the inclusion of personal opinions instead of a comparative summary significantly hinder the task achievement. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest growth categories and grouping data logically without adding external commentary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay lacks a logical structure. The introduction is informal and does not clearly state what the table represents. Paragraphing is absent, and the transition between categories is mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Starting with...', 'finishing with...'). Cohesive devices are used incorrectly or in a way that creates confusion, such as the use of 'Like this table shows us' to begin a sentence. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the data. Better use of linking words and a clear paragraph structure (Introduction, Overview, Body Paragraphs) is necessary.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'pourcentage', 'explined', 'secteur', and 'textites'. The student uses informal and imprecise language like 'normal raise', 'good raise', and 'bad raise', which are not suitable for an academic context. The word 'infect' is used incorrectly in place of 'affect'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data accurately, relying on repetitive and basic structures. To reach a higher band, the student needs to learn topic-specific vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a decline', or 'significant growth'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. Subject-verb agreement is consistently problematic, such as 'some categories goes up' and 'Petroleum products who did increase'. Sentence structure is often fragmented or run-on, and punctuation is misused throughout the text. The use of 'who' to refer to inanimate objects (product categories) is a major error. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used are often marred by errors in tense and word order. Significant improvement in basic sentence construction and grammatical accuracy is required.
