Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the trends for textiles, engineered goods, gems and jewellery, and agricultural products. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with specific data from the table. However, the response lacks a clear integration of the bar chart data (the actual values in billions) and the table data (the percentage changes). To reach a higher band, you should explicitly mention the monetary values from the bar chart to provide a more comprehensive summary, rather than focusing primarily on the percentage changes. The comparison between categories is present but could be more analytical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by category. You use some cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'similarly', and 'on the other hand' to connect ideas. However, the progression between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is generally clear, but the structure of the final paragraph feels slightly repetitive in its focus on the percentage changes. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'surged', 'illustrated', and 'categories'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'The number of petroleum products increased slightly higher', where 'value' would be more precise than 'number'. Additionally, 'lowest increased' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'lowest increase'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. Incorporating more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would strengthen your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of 'whereas' to contrast data. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the percentage of textiles export' (should be 'exports') and 'the lowest increased in exports' (should be 'increase'). The punctuation is generally acceptable, though the capitalization of 'The' in the middle of a sentence ('Similarly, The percentage...') is a recurring error. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent sentence structure will help improve your accuracy.
