below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The given bar chart compares the earnings from different exported goods in a country between 2015 and 2016, along with the percentage change in their values.

Overall, income from petroleum products, engineered goods, agricultural products, and textiles increased, while gems and jewellery generated a lower earnings.

In 2015, petroleum products generated $70 billion, compared with about $73 billion in 2016, making them the most significant export product. Earnings from engineered goods rose from about $65 billion in 2015 to approximately $72 billion in 2016, representing an 8.5% increase. The increase in earnings from agricultural products was the smallest, at about 0.81%. Earnings from textile exports stood at about $25 billion in 2015, rising to approximately $32 billion in 2016, which represented a rise of 15.24%.

In contrast, earnings from gems and jewellery decreased from $63 billion in 2015 to $58 billion in 2016, equivalent to a 5.18% drop in value.
