Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, including the export values and the percentage changes. However, the summary is somewhat disjointed. While you identified the highest and lowest values, the overview could be more effectively integrated. The data reporting is generally accurate, but there are some inconsistencies in the presentation of figures (e.g., stating petroleum earned 62 billion in 2016 while also noting a 3% increase, which does not mathematically align with the 2015 figure of 60 billion). To improve, ensure that your data points are consistent and that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward. Phrases like 'Moving ahead' and 'At the glance' are used incorrectly or sound unnatural. Additionally, the transition between the description of the bar chart and the table is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words and phrases more naturally to connect your ideas and sentences, ensuring that the flow between paragraphs is smoother and more professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There is a reliance on basic verbs like 'earn' and 'show', and some word choices are imprecise, such as 'calibrated' when referring to the data units. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'least value recorded textiles'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal decline', and ensure that your terminology is used in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'highest value recorded by petroleum'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'The data had been calibrated'), and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'petroleum show increase'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve accuracy.
