Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given graph illustrates the export earning prices of 5 valuable product categories in percentages that includes the years 2015 and 2016. The data is given in USD and the increasing-decreasing rate in the percentages.

Petroleum products got increased by 3% from 2015 to 2016. Engineered goods ranked the second place by 8.5%. Almost 5.18% was being downed in gems and jewelry. This is the only product that is the one and only lowermost rate in the graph. The lowest rate was hold by agricultural products. And the rate is 0.81%, but it was upgraded unlike gems and jewelry. The highest rate in the graph is 15.24%, and textile products ensure their first place with this fine increased rate in the year of 2016.

The graph only met the lowest decrease rate for the gems and jewelry products, basically the rate went down which was must relief for the mass people, not for the businessmen obviously. The value of textile goods was increased by the highest rate which could be a bit harmful for the owners and the workers of industrial factories as most of the national economic development grades lied on industrial sides. The graph narrates both situations lightly. But the increasements are quite concerning too.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main features, such as the highest and lowest growth rates. However, the analysis is hampered by the inclusion of irrelevant personal commentary. For instance, speculating on the impact of export changes on 'mass people' or 'businessmen' is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which requires an objective summary of data. Furthermore, the description of the data is sometimes confusing; for example, stating that agricultural products had the 'lowest rate' while also noting they were 'upgraded' lacks clarity. To improve, focus strictly on reporting the figures and comparing the categories without adding subjective opinions or external economic theories.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the transition 'And the rate is 0.81%'. The final paragraph introduces subjective analysis that does not logically follow the data presentation, creating a disconnect in the flow of the report. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Conversely') to connect sentences and ensure that each paragraph focuses solely on the data provided in the prompt.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and contains several awkward collocations and non-standard phrasing. Examples include 'export earning prices', 'got increased', 'was being downed', and 'the one and only lowermost rate'. These errors occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. The term 'increasements' is not standard English. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'experienced a rise', 'declined', or 'remained stable', and avoid informal or repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary will help you describe the data more professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('was being downed', 'was hold by'), subject-verb agreement errors, and awkward sentence construction ('the rate went down which was must relief'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring correct tense usage when describing past data. Proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb tense consistency will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
