Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the main features of both the bar chart and the table. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For example, the student states that agricultural and textile products remained the same at 'a little bit above 40 billion', which contradicts the provided data. Furthermore, the description of the 2015 figures is confusing and lacks precision. While the main trends are identified, the lack of clarity in data presentation and some misinterpretations of the figures prevent this from reaching a higher band. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant differences between the two years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as the frequent and incorrect use of 'In additions' and 'however' at the start of sentences where they do not logically connect the ideas. The progression of information is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between categories is abrupt. While there is an overall attempt at a logical flow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the sentence starters limit the coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher score. There are several spelling errors, such as 'jellewery' and 'differents', and word choice issues, such as 'proportion change' instead of 'percentage change'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors like 'highest figure' and 'rose'. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied terminology to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal increase', and ensure accurate spelling of key terms related to the data categories.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('shares was decreased'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and occasionally distracts the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, consistent tense usage, and correct punctuation, as well as reducing the number of slips in basic grammar.
