Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of focusing on the data provided, the second paragraph introduces external knowledge and personal opinions about textiles, petroleum, and agriculture. IELTS Task 1 requires an objective summary of the provided data only. While the first paragraph attempts to report some figures, the overall response lacks a clear overview of the main trends and fails to present the data in a structured, analytical way. The inclusion of irrelevant commentary significantly detracts from the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into two paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The first paragraph attempts to list data points, but the lack of clear signposting makes it difficult to follow. The second paragraph is entirely off-topic, which disrupts the coherence of the report. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, and the transition between the data description and the personal commentary is abrupt and illogical. The overall structure does not support the purpose of a data summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. While there are attempts to use topic-specific terms like 'petroleum products' and 'engineered products', the phrasing is often imprecise, such as 'major jump' or 'females first choice'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'due shift more organic food' which is grammatically and lexically awkward. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with the precision expected at higher band levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'all other sectors depends on' (subject-verb agreement), 'due to high prices in the market shows a decline a particular country' (missing prepositions and awkward syntax), and 'due shift more organic food' (missing prepositions/conjunctions). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and missing commas in lists. These errors are frequent and distract the reader.
