Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar charts depict the value of one country’s exports in various five categories during 2015 and 2016. The table illustrates the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Overall, it can be seen that petroleum products were highest in both years. However, the textiles numbers were lower in time period. In addition, in the table percentage change in values is vice versa from the bar chart.
To begin with, petroleum products were 60$ and 62$ billion ions in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Approximately same exports seen in 2016 for engineered goods but 2015 export slightly declined at 58$ billion. In addition, germs and jewellery as well as agricultural products exports relatively same in both years. Moreover, in textiles the export respectively 35$ and 42$.
In the table, it can be seen that, the rate of petroleum products was lowest only 3% while textiles proportion was highest at 15.24%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by summarizing the provided data, but the coverage is uneven. While you identify the main features, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating 'petroleum products were 60$ and 62$ billion ions' is unclear, and the claim that 'germs and jewellery... exports relatively same' lacks specific supporting data. The comparison between the bar chart and the table is attempted, but the analysis is superficial. To improve, ensure that all figures are transcribed accurately and that you clearly distinguish between the values in 2015 and 2016 rather than grouping them in a way that obscures the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. Phrases like 'in the table percentage change in values is vice versa from the bar chart' are confusing and do not effectively link the two data sets. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Moreover'), they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the categories and the years.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors that impede clarity. The use of 'germs' instead of 'gems' is a significant error that changes the meaning of the data. Additionally, the phrasing '62$ billion ions' is non-standard and confusing. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highest' and 'lower', and the attempt to use more complex vocabulary is often unsuccessful due to incorrect collocations. To reach a higher band, focus on using precise terminology for data reporting, such as 'increased by', 'remained stable', or 'fluctuated', and ensure spelling and word choice are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in textiles the export'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'Approximately same exports seen'), and awkward sentence construction. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. While the meaning is usually discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence structure prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
