Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The assigned bar chart shows the ratio of revenue generated by selling products to other countries in the year 2015 and 2016 whereas the table chart depicts the value change in the income from different goods in both the years.

Overall, the highest income was generated by exporting petroleum products and an increment of 3% was found in the subsequent year. However, revenue made from the exports of agriculture and textiles was the same in 2016 by 40 billion dollars. Moreover, an increase in revenue is discovered in all types of goods except agricultural products.

To begin with, significant earnings were generated from the sales of two products. Petroleum and engineered goods with the income of 60 and 50 billion in 2015 respectively which later showed rise of 3 and 8.5%. Selling Gems and jewellery overseas showed a downfall of 5.18% in income generated, as money obtained from this product was about 55 billion and 50 billion in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Furthermore, the least change can be seen in the income of agricultural during the years, in 2015 money obtained from agriculture was 40 billion dollars which later rose by 0.81%. Textiles showed a drastic incline in the income as compared to the former year by 15.24% and reached 40 billion dollars in 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features and provided relevant comparisons. You covered both the bar chart and the table data effectively. However, there are some inaccuracies in your data interpretation. For example, you stated that agricultural products showed a decrease, but the table indicates a positive percentage change of 0.81%. Additionally, you mentioned that revenue for agriculture and textiles was the same in 2016 at 40 billion dollars, which is accurate, but your description of the 'downfall' in gems and jewellery could be more precise by explicitly linking the percentage change to the absolute values provided. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For instance, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'in 2016 by 40 billion dollars' is slightly awkward. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'revenue', 'generated', 'downfall', and 'drastic incline'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'table chart' (which is redundant) and 'the income of agricultural' (which should be 'agricultural products'). While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, some phrasing remains slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations related to data reporting, such as 'experienced a marginal increase' instead of 'rose by 0.81%'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the income of agricultural during the years' (missing noun) and 'the income of 60 and 50 billion in 2015 respectively which later showed rise' (missing article 'a'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly fragmented. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly to improve clarity.
