Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the chart, noting categories like petroleum products and engineering goods. However, the student fails to meet the minimum word requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at 121 words with an incomplete sentence ending in "agr". Furthermore, there are significant data inaccuracies, such as stating that engineering goods "rapidly increased by 8.5 percent" when the text refers to percentage changes, and mentioning that gems and jewellery decreased when the visual data likely indicated something else. Due to under-length performance and incomplete development, the response meets the criteria for Band 4.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into short, disjointed paragraphs, and the overall progression is abruptly cut off at the end. Cohesive devices are minimal and often misused, as seen with phrases like "where as" and "Then enginnering goods earn money". Referencing is sometimes unclear, and paragraphing is inadequate due to the incomplete nature of the response. The lack of proper organizational structure and mechanical cohesion places this text firmly at a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a very limited and repetitive vocabulary set, constantly repeating phrases like "earn money" instead of using varied reporting verbs such as "generated", "accounted for", or "totaled". There are also numerous spelling and word-form errors, including "bilions", "enginnering", and "categories passed to improve". The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to communicate simple ideas about the data, aligning with a Band 5.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the text. The student relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex formulations contain frequent errors, such as "petroleum products and engineering goods earning the significant proportion" (missing auxiliary verb) and "petroleum products earn 6 bilions dollar and that up to 6.3 bilions dollar". Punctuation is also erratic, with spaces placed before commas and periods. These persistent errors can cause difficulty for the reader, matching Band 5.0.
