Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to cover the main categories from the chart, such as Petroleum products, Engineered goods, Gems and jewellery, Agricultural products, and Textiles. However, the data reported is frequently inaccurate or vague (e.g., stating Petroleum products export was 'round about sixty five' in 2015 when it was 61, and misreading data points across the board). Furthermore, the overview provided at the end is overly simplistic and relies on a vague statement rather than summarising the main trends effectively. The student fails to make meaningful comparisons between categories or years as requested by the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into separate paragraphs for each category, which provides a basic structural framework. However, there is a lack of overall progression and logical linking between paragraphs. Cohesive devices are extremely limited and repetitive, with sentences starting mechanically (e.g., 'The first column represented...', 'The second column showed...', 'Third column showed...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the transition from body paragraphs to the conclusion is abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The lexical range is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple verbs like 'showed', 'represented', 'increased', and 'reduced'. There are noticeable vocabulary inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'Gems items' instead of 'gems and jewellery' or 'Engineer goods' instead of 'engineered goods'. Spelling errors are present, and the limited vocabulary range restricts the writer's ability to describe the data with precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, mostly consisting of simple sentences. Attempts at more complex structures are faulty or absent. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'The export of agricultural products were'), missing articles, and awkward prepositions ('reached on sixty five'). While these errors do not completely obscure the basic meaning, they occur frequently and impede smooth reading.
