Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the task by mentioning various categories of exports such as petroleum products, engineered goods, and textiles. However, the student includes irrelevant introductory commentary ('Export business is one of the most profitable business in the world...') and fails to accurately report the main features from the data. Furthermore, the data cited in the main body conflicts directly with the figures listed at the end of the text and the actual visual data (for instance, claiming engineered goods reached 70% and textiles reached 45%, while later stating conflicting percentages). This lack of accurate data reporting and misunderstanding of units (treating billions as percentages) leads to an under-developed response that falls short of a Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The organization of the response is weak and lacks a logical progression. The text is broken into disjointed sentences and stray lists rather than cohesive paragraphs. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, leading to a choppy reading experience. Paragraphing is inappropriate, with a bullet-point-style summary awkwardly appended to the end of the essay without a clear transitional flow. Referencing between the introductory remarks, body sentences, and concluding data list is unclear and confusing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Vocabulary usage is basic, repetitive, and heavily relies on simplistic phrases ('increase', 'little bit', 'big difference'). The student attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to the chart ('petroleum products', 'agricultural products', 'textiles'), but word choices and collocations are frequently inaccurate, such as using 'ratio' instead of 'amount', 'value', or 'earnings'. There are also basic word-form errors, such as 'engine goods' instead of 'engineered goods'. These lexical limitations and errors occasionally strain communication and reflect a limited range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are notable grammatical mistakes and awkward phrasings, such as 'Thats the reason most of the people wants to join' (subject-verb agreement error, missing apostrophe, and incorrect pluralisation) and 'The ratio of increasing compared with...' Punctuation is also poorly handled, with missing periods and commas. Complex sentences are attempted but are generally faulty and lack control.
