Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the task by summarizing the export earnings and percentage changes for various categories in 2015 and 2016. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies in the description. For instance, the student states that petroleum products 'had almost same export price' and agricultural products had 'a same export prices in both years', whereas the chart shows petroleum rising from 61 to 63 billion and agricultural products staying flat at 31 billion. Furthermore, the claim that engineered goods in 2015 were greater than in 2016 contradicts the data showing an increase from 57 to 62 billion. The overview is extremely brief, only mentioning textiles. These issues reflect a partial or inaccurate reading of the visual data, placing the performance within the Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into three brief paragraphs, attempting a basic structure of introduction, body, and conclusion/table summary. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and inaccurate reporting of data relationships. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive ('in a country', 'in both years'). Paragraphing is present, but the overall organization feels mechanical and disjointed. Referencing between sentences is occasionally unclear, such as the sudden shift to the percentage table in the final paragraph without clear integration with the preceding trends. These features align with the Band 5 descriptor for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited vocabulary range that is just adequate to communicate basic points, such as 'export', 'category', 'percentage change', and 'increased' or 'decreased'. However, there are multiple spelling and lexical errors, including 'export's' (incorrect apostrophe), 'varios' (various), 'comperison' (comparison), 'oposite' (opposite), 'texiles' (textiles), and 'producats' (products). Attempts at less common vocabulary are either misspelled or imprecise. These lexical limitations and frequent spelling errors cause some distraction for the reader, fitting the Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response exhibits a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic subject-verb constructions like 'The agricultural products had a same export prices'. Attempts at complex structures are flawed, featuring frequent grammatical and article errors, such as 'the export of the textile was increased' (passive/active confusion), 'had almost same export price' (missing article), and 'had a same export prices' (incorrect singular/plural agreement with 'a' and 'prices'). Errors are frequent throughout the text, though they rarely obscure the general meaning entirely, which places the grammar firmly at Band 5.
