Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by describing various categories of exports from 2015 to 2016, mentioning both values and percentage changes (e.g., petroleum at 3%, gems and jewellery at a decline of 5.18%, engineered goods at 8.5%, and textiles at 15.24%). However, the response heavily relies on the table data (percentage changes) while almost entirely neglecting the actual export values shown in the bar chart, which represent a crucial part of the visual data. Furthermore, there is unnecessary speculation and commentary that is not presented in the source data, such as claiming petroleum 'had been proved beneficial' or that textile products 'are getting fame in the other countries'. Consequently, key features and clear overviews are underdeveloped, leading to a Band 5.0 score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is arranged into a series of short, mostly single-sentence paragraphs which prevents the formation of a cohesive and logical overall structure. Paragraphing is used inappropriately, breaking up natural trains of thought. Although basic cohesive devices and referencing terms such as 'On the other side' and 'Considering the agriculture products' are attempted, they are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly phrased (e.g., 'if we consider about the export'). There is a lack of smooth progression between ideas, and the text reads as a fragmented list of observations rather than a unified summary report. This level of organisation aligns with a Band 5.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks precision and range. There are several noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'Engineered good' (should be goods), 'jem' (gems), and 'immense increase'. The student attempts less common expressions like 'relatively same' and 'lowest as comparison', but these contain inaccuracies in collocation and grammar. Furthermore, relying on colloquial phrases like 'getting fame' is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 response. The lexical range is limited and repetitive, supporting a Band 5.0 rating.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic complex constructions which frequently contain errors. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include subject-verb agreement issues ('the export in 2015 and 2016 are relatively same'), preposition errors ('rise 3 percent than'), and missing plurals ('Engineered good'). Attempts at complex forms often result in awkward or faulty phrasing, such as 'if we consider about the export of jem and jewellery, there is a decline in the graph which shows less export'. Frequent errors cause some difficulty and strain for the reader, placing this performance at Band 5.0.
