below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart illustrates the export earnings associated with various industrial products during the year 2015 and 2016, along with the table that describes the growth and decline of those product values in terms of percentage for one country.
Overall, earnings from petroleum and engineered goods remained highest in both years, while textile products accounted for lowest in earnings in both years. Moreover, there was a significant surge in percentage change of values for textiles. In contrast with, a moderate reduction in the value of gems and jewellery.
There were about 70 and 68 billion dollars earned from the petroleum and engineered goods respectively in the year 2015, which slightly increased to around 72 billion dollars for both products in the year 2016. On the other hand, the earnings from gems and jewellery products plummeted from around 52 billion dollars to below 50 billion dollars. Moreover, the export earnings significantly grew for textiles and agricultural products and accounted similar export earnings in the year 2016 of about 30 billion dollars.
There were positive development in the percentage change of values of about 3%, 8.5% , 0.81% and 15.24% for the petroleum, engineered, agricultural and textiles products respectively, along with a major depreciation of 5.18% recorded in gems and jewellery value.
