Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the task by summarising export values and percentage changes between 2015 and 2016. However, the performance is limited because the information reported contains numerous inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the student states that petroleum products grew up 3% to above 70 billion, whereas the chart shows figures around 61 and 63 billion. Similarly, other data points and categories like germs and jewellery are misread or confused. While an overview is attempted, the limited and inaccurate use of data means the response only partially addresses the requirements of the prompt, resulting in a minimally developed account of the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The writing shows some organisation with basic attempts at paragraphing and transitional phrases like 'overall', 'In details', and 'on the one hand'. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is hindered by repetitive and mechanical phrasing. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkwardly placed, such as starting multiple sentences with cumbersome transitional clauses. Referencing between the data points, years, and categories is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparisons smoothly. Paragraphing is attempted by separating the introduction, overview, and body, but the internal structure within paragraphs lacks clear logical links.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms and suffering from noticeable errors in word choice and spelling. Examples of lexical issues include misspellings and incorrect word forms such as 'illustrats', 'durring', 'county s', 'ratio change', and 'sored' instead of 'rose' or 'increased'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary or discuss percentage changes lead to awkward phrasing and collocation errors, such as 'at grew up' and 'at climbed'. These frequent lexical inaccuracies and basic vocabulary choices strain the reader and reflect a limited range appropriate for academic reporting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or faultily constructed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and non-standard verb forms such as 'the petroleum products was below' and 'textiles products was grew'. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences lacking proper periods or commas to separate clauses. These frequent errors in grammar and structure cause considerable difficulty for the reader and restrict the text to basic sentence patterns.
