Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 97 words. Due to this significant shortfall, the task is only partially addressed, and the response lacks a full overview or a comprehensive reporting of the main features shown in the visual data. The student attempts to describe some figures for petroleum and engineering goods, but the data is inaccurate or poorly communicated, stating earnings were around '$50 to $55 billions' for 2015 when the chart shows different values, and the text trails off incomplete. This places the task achievement at a very basic level where key requirements of the prompt are left unfulfilled.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation attempted through opening statements and paragraph breaks, but overall progression is severely hindered by the incomplete nature of the response and abrupt ending. Cohesive devices are minimal and basic, with repetitive phrasing and mechanical links such as 'Whereas, the both goods were less exported' and 'Subsequently'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the lack of a proper conclusion or fully developed body paragraphs prevents a clear overall logical flow. Referencing between sentences is sometimes unclear, and the text breaks off mid-sentence, disrupting any sense of cohesive development.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, restricted mostly to basic terms related to the prompt such as 'exports', 'categories', 'goods', and 'earnings'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word formations, such as 'column shart' instead of 'chart', 'one's country' instead of 'a country's', 'jewelley' instead of 'jewellery', and incorrect collocations like 'exported greater'. These lexical inadequacies and spelling slips reflect a restricted range of vocabulary that occasionally causes difficulty and confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, mostly attempting simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are multiple grammatical inaccuracies, including subject-verb agreement issues ('earning were measured', 'each item had export earnings'), article misuse ('the one's country exports'), and awkward phrasing ('with each item had'). Complex sentence attempts are faulty and awkward, such as 'constituting about $50 eae', which breaks off entirely. Frequent grammatical errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader in tracking the intended meaning.
