Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response struggles to accurately report the data from the visual. There are significant inaccuracies in the figures cited throughout the text; for instance, the writer states that petroleum products were 70 billion dollars in 2015 and 73 billion in 2016, whereas the actual figures are approximately 61 and 63 billion. Furthermore, gems and jewellery are reported incorrectly as having a net worth of 51 billion, and the percentage changes provided do not consistently align with the data source. While the writer attempts an overview and selects some categories to discuss, the heavy reliance on incorrect statistics means the task is only minimally addressed, preventing the response from achieving a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structural organization, featuring an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that attempt to group the data. However, overall progression is hindered by awkward sequencing and mechanical transitions. While basic cohesive devices are present, such as 'Overall', 'In contrast', and 'Meanwhile', referencing is occasionally unclear, and the links between sentences do not always create a smooth logical flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of data categories within the body paragraphs feels somewhat arbitrary rather than systematically organized by trends or similarities.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student uses basic vocabulary related to graphs and economic data, such as 'rose', 'dropped', 'revenue', and 'proportion'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'export earning', 'least that provided profit', and 'plummeted by ratio'. Although the reader can generally grasp the intended meaning, these inaccuracies and awkward phrasings restrict the range of vocabulary and prevent the writing from demonstrating more precise or flexible language control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently result in grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with prepositions, articles, verb forms, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'the petroleum products was the category', 'generated immense profit 67 billion', and 'occupied at 51 billion'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. While these errors do not completely obscure the message, they occur with enough frequency to cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited control over more complex grammatical patterns.
