Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to cover both the bar chart and the table, but several of the figures reported do not match the visual data accurately. For example, the student states that petroleum products were approximately 65 billion in 2015, whereas the actual figure is closer to 61 billion. Furthermore, some ideas are under-developed or lack precise contextualization regarding how the categories are compared. While an overview is provided stating that values remained stable, the supporting details contain inaccuracies and generalisations that prevent the response from achieving a higher level of data reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and distinct body paragraphs discussing the bar chart and table respectively. However, the progression is sometimes hampered by mechanical or repetitive use of cohesive devices, such as starting multiple sentences with 'According to...' or 'Moreover'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate ideas, but referencing and logical flow between sentences could be smoother to guide the reader more effectively through the data comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, though the range is limited. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'proportion', 'revenue', and 'consistent', but encounters issues with spelling ('comapres', 'categeries', 'enginnering', 'consistant') and word choice or form ('prices' used instead of values, 'rise' instead of rose). These lexical errors and awkward collocations do not heavily impede communication, but they reflect a limited control over precise word choice and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but the attempts at complex structures are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and mechanics, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('textiles exports stands at lowest'), incorrect prepositions or missing articles ('in year 2015', 'in both year'), and awkward tense shifts. While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they occur with sufficient frequency to cause occasional difficulty for the reader and restrict the grammatical score to this band.
