Student answer (Band 4.0)
So this paragraph is showing us the comparison of export earning of year 2015 and 2016,and this chart is showing that petroleum products give less earning than earning of petroleum products in 2016 and the engine goods also give less earning in 2015 as compare to 2016 but the gems and jewellery give higher earning than the earning of gems and jewellery in 2015 and this is a good point and beneficial. Now we talk about agricultural products they almost give same earning but there is a little bit difference and Textiles are too much lower in earnings than the earning of textile in 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping well short at only 104 words. Regarding content, the student attempts to summarise the visual data, but the interpretation contains factual errors regarding the trends and figures. For instance, the text claims that petroleum products gave less earning in 2015 compared to 2016, which is stated in a confusing manner, and misrepresents the trends for agricultural products and textiles, claiming textiles are lower in earnings in 2016 when the chart shows an increase to 31 billion. The overview is absent, and the reporting of main features is disjointed and confused, resulting in a minimal response to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The response is written as a single, unparagraphed block of text, which severely hinders the overall organisation and visual clarity. There is a lack of logical progression and clear paragraphing, making the text difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on informal spoken connectors and run-on structures such as 'So this paragraph is showing', 'and this chart is showing', and 'Now we talk about'. Referencing and linking between ideas are faulty, creating a mechanical and hard-to-navigate flow that lacks overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student relies on elementary phrases such as 'showing us', 'give less earning', and 'a little bit difference'. There are awkward word choices and imprecise collocations, such as 'engine goods' instead of 'engineered goods' and 'too much lower in earnings'. Spelling and word-form errors occur, though communication is not entirely impeded. However, the range is strictly limited to basic everyday terms, preventing the writer from demonstrating the flexibility and precision needed for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical structure is characterised by a heavy reliance on long, run-on simple and compound sentences linked by coordinating conjunctions like 'and'. There is a lack of control over complex sentence forms. Numerous grammatical errors are present, including tense confusion (e.g., mixing past data analysis with present tense verbs like 'is showing', 'give', and 'talk'), missing articles, and faulty prepositions ('in 2015 as compare to 2016'). Punctuation is virtually absent, with comma splices linking independent clauses, causing frequent difficulty for the reader.
