Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally and fails to present accurate data from the visual. The student attempts to report on the bar chart and the table, but the figures provided are largely incorrect and confused (for instance, claiming that petroleum products were 'almost 6 billions dollar' when the chart shows over 60 billion, and misinterpreting the percentage changes from the table as exported quantities). While there is a basic attempt at an overview, the lack of accurate data selection and reporting prevents the response from reaching a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident with basic paragraphing and transitional phrases such as 'To begin with', 'Turning to the table', and 'Overall'. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical development of ideas is hindered by inaccurate information. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, and referencing between sentences is occasionally confusing. To move forward, the student needs to ensure that the logical links between sentences directly support a clear and accurate comparison of the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'ilustrates', 'petrolium', 'inclined', 'lowset', and 'bilions'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but inaccurate word forms and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication. Expanding the range of vocabulary related to data trends and improving spelling accuracy are essential steps for improvement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of structures and struggles with basic grammatical accuracy. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'exportation of petrolium products value were', 'value was lowered with', and 'the country was exported'. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. Strengthening basic sentence construction and ensuring correct use of tense and voice will greatly improve this criterion.
