Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response only partially addresses the task requirements. While the student attempts to summarise the data, there are significant factual inaccuracies and misreadings of the provided chart. For instance, the text claims that petroleum products reached a total earning of 70 billion dollars in 2016 and crossed it, whereas the graph indicates it was around 61 billion in 2015 and 63 billion in 2016. Furthermore, the response mentions the years 2017 incorrectly, and the data points cited for engineered goods and gems and jewellery do not accurately reflect the figures in the visual data. The overview is overly focused on mechanical chart features like the x-axis and y-axis rather than substantive trends, resulting in limited and confused information.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with an introductory paragraph, an overview, and a body paragraph, but the response lacks clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the mechanical and repetitive transitions used to introduce details (e.g., 'In more detail', 'Furthermore'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical flow between sentences and ideas is frequently disrupted by inaccurate data reporting and weak referencing, making the progression difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic concepts, though it contains noticeable errors that occasionally impede understanding. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'sustantial' and 'weakened', but these are accompanied by spelling mistakes ('aquiring') and inaccurate word choices or collocations, such as 'worth of one nations exports' and 'percentage shift'. Basic terms are repeated, and vocabulary control remains inconsistent throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often faulty or confused in their grammatical patterns, such as in 'The most popular product recorded for highest worth in both the year is petroleum'. There are noticeable errors in verb tenses (confusing 2015, 2016, and 2017), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'petroleum products has'), and missing articles, which impact the overall readability of the text.
