Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main parts of the task by presenting data from both the bar chart and the table, but the execution is uneven. While an overview is attempted, it contains noticeable inaccuracies regarding the trends, such as stating that gems and jewellery increased when the chart and table clearly show a decrease. Furthermore, the figures cited throughout the body paragraphs (such as '65 billion' and '60 billion') frequently misread the actual data points presented in the visual. Ideas are partially developed, but the reliance on inaccurate data points means that the key features are not reported with sufficient accuracy or clarity.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical division into introduction, overview, body paragraphs detailing the chart, and a final paragraph detailing the table percentages. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different visual elements. However, cohesion at the sentence level is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with repetitive transition phrases like 'In contrast' and 'In addition' used excessively. Referencing and progression are occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and abrupt shifts between sentences, preventing a smoother flow of information.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate to convey basic information about the export categories, but the range is limited and contains noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. For example, writing 'proportion change' instead of 'percentage change' and 'exports earning are begin at' demonstrates strain in handling lexical items. There are also instances of awkward phrasing like 'increased largely compared to all categories by nearly 7 billions'. Spelling and word-form errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the response to a modest lexical level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples include 'exports are increased', 'gems and jewellery exports was decreased', and 'where 53 billions earnings in 2015'. Additionally, passive and active voice confusion occurs frequently, such as 'textiles, was increased to 40 billions', causing noticeable difficulty and strain for the reader.
