Student answer (Band 5.5)
The information about the value of one country's export in various categories in 2015 and 2016 and the percentage change in each category of 2016 is illustrated by the given bar and table chart respectively.
Overall, the prima facie glance makes it quite visible that the export earning in all categories and percentage change in values of all categories have shown an increase bar gems and jewellery.
Scrutinising deeper into the obtainable information, the export income from petroleum products in both 2015 and 2016 was at the peak of 65 billion dollars and approximately 67 billion dollars respectively. Textiles had contributed the least in export earning in both the years. Export income from agricutural products was almost identical at around 40 billion dollars and that of gems and jewellary was similar at around 53 billion. The earning from engineering goods in 2016 was almost double the income form textiles in 2015.
Looking at the table, textiles has shown a significant increase of 15.24% as percent change in vlaues. Petroleum products have shown the seconnd highest increase in percentage value with 8.5% change. Gems and jewellry showed a decrease of 5.18% in total value of export. Agricultural products have shown a negligible increase of 0.81% in the percent change. The percent change in value of textiles was more than 5folds the percentage increase in value of engineering goods.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, as the data reported contains numerous inaccuracies when compared against the visual reference. For instance, the export income for petroleum products is stated as 65 and 67 billion dollars, whereas the chart shows approximately 61 and 63 billion dollars. Similarly, agricultural products and gems and jewellery figures are misreported significantly. Although an overview is attempted, stating that all categories increased 'bar gems and jewellery', the lack of accurate data extraction and the inclusion of invented figures limit the development of key features. To reach higher bands, the response would need to accurately report the main trends and data points directly from the source material without significant miscalculations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into logical paragraphs, separating the introduction, overview, bar chart details, and table data. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'Scrutinising deeper', and 'Looking at the table', which help guide the reader through the text. However, referencing is sometimes imprecise, and the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical transitions. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to group related ideas, but logical progression between sentences could be smoother. To improve further, the writer should ensure that cohesive devices connect ideas more naturally and that referencing between different parts of the text is clear and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'prima facie glance', 'export earning', and 'negligible increase'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'bar gems and jewellery' instead of 'except', 'agricutural' (spelling), 'jewellary' (spelling), 'vlaues' (spelling), and confusing percentages with absolute values. Additionally, the phrase 'more than 5folds' contains a word-formation error. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes occasionally cause slight confusion for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the vocabulary must be used with greater precision and correct spelling, along with more accurate collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure with attempts at relative clauses and participial phrases, such as 'The information about the value... is illustrated by'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'textiles has shown' and 'Petroleum products have shown the seconnd highest increase', as well as awkward phrasing in comparative structures. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of grammatical control. Improving accuracy in basic agreements, plurals, and comparative structures will enhance the overall standard of writing.
