IELTS Writing Task 1 question
below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Information about the amount of one nation's exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016 is delineated by the provided bar graph and tabel.
Overall, looking at the graph comphrehensively, it is conspicuosly cognized that petroleum good and engineered goods dominated both the year with the highest export, whereas agricultural producta and textile products are accounted for the lowest and gems and jwellery is not at peak and not at the lowest point.
Scrutinizing deeper into the obtainable information, in 2015 petroleum products were at 60 billions and enginnered goods at 58 billions and they show that they both increased by 3% and 8.5% in 2016 respectively. In 2016 each category shows an inclined graph bar gems and jwellery which is declined by 5.18% than 2015 from 53 to 50 billions.
Digging deeper into the layouts, it is seen that textiles show a massive incline in expoer income which is at 35billions in 2015 and 43 billions in 2016 (15.24% increased)and agricultural products shows the lowest increase which is at 42 billions in 2015 and 41 billions 2016 (0.81%icreased).
Hereby, I conclude my report.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the task by reporting information from the chart and table, but it only partially covers the data and contains significant inaccuracies. Note that 8 words copied from the prompt were not counted towards the minimum length. While the student identifies some general trends, such as petroleum and engineered goods having higher figures, many of the specific data points cited conflict with the visual source. For instance, the text claims that in 2016 gems and jewellery declined from 53 to 50 billions, whereas the source shows 43 falling to 41. Furthermore, the description of agricultural products and textiles in the fourth paragraph contains figures that do not match the chart. To reach a higher level, the response must accurately select and report key features without inventing or misreading data figures, and provide a clearer, more precise overview of the main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has some structural organisation and attempts to group information into paragraphs, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraph transitions rely on repetitive and awkward phrases such as 'Scrutinizing deeper' and 'Digging deeper into the layouts', which feel mechanical rather than natural. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, and the referencing between sentences is sometimes unclear, making the flow disjointed. To improve in coherence and cohesion, the student should ensure that ideas progress logically from one point to the next, use standard and natural cohesive devices instead of overused formulaic phrases, and organize the overview and body paragraphs with a clearer, more natural structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and contains numerous errors in word choice, word form, and spelling. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'tabel' instead of table, 'comphrehensively', 'conspicuosly cognized', 'producta', 'jwellery', 'enginnered', 'inclined graph bar', and 'expoer income'. Many phrases are unnatural or strained, such as 'dominated both the year with the highest export' and 'gems and jwellery is not at peak and not at the lowest point'. These errors frequently cause strain for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to develop a more precise and accurate vocabulary range, pay closer attention to spelling and word forms, and use appropriate collocations when describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex attempts. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies, missing prepositions, and incorrect verb forms. Examples include 'petroleum good and engineered goods dominated both the year', 'each category shows an inclined graph bar gems and jwellery which is declined', and 'agricultural products shows the lowest increase which is at 42 billions in 2015 and 41 billions 2016 (0.81%icreased)'. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction, accurate subject-verb agreement, correct use of past and present tenses for data reports, and reliable punctuation.
