Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally, as the word count falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum, stopping at just 84 words. Furthermore, the writing trails off mid-sentence at the end ('petroleum has highest accounted 655'), meaning the overview and data presentation are incomplete. While the student attempts to identify some main features such as petroleum products having the highest earnings and textiles seeing a rapid increase, the incomplete nature of the response and the failure to meet the length requirement restrict the score at this level. To improve, the student must ensure they write at least 150 words and fully complete all intended points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response shows some basic attempts at organization by dividing the text into an introduction and a rudimentary overview paragraph. However, information and ideas are not arranged coherently due to the abrupt ending and lack of a fully developed body structure. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the misuse of 'In constrast' in the opening sentences where no contrast is present. Referencing and progression are disrupted by the truncated format. To progress, the writer needs to structure the essay logically with clear paragraphs, use accurate transition signals, and ensure a smooth progression of ideas from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'highest', 'lowest', and 'value', alongside some spelling and word-choice errors like 'constrast' instead of 'contrast', 'engin eered' or 'engineering good', and 'rapildy inceased'. These errors and the narrow range of vocabulary mean the language is basic and repetitive. To achieve a higher band, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of less common vocabulary and precise terms related to data trends, while taking care to eliminate spelling and word-form mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammar demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent errors are present, including articles and prepositions, such as 'the export earnings of petroleum products was highest' (subject-verb agreement error) and the incomplete clause at the end. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and distort meaning. To improve, the student must work on sentence variety, ensure correct subject-verb agreement, and avoid ending sentences abruptly or incorrectly.
