Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response only partially addresses the task requirements. While it attempts to report the main features of the chart and table—such as mentioning the percentage changes for petroleum products, engineered goods, and textiles—the selection of data lacks a fully clear overview. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum 150-word count. To move to a higher band, the writer must ensure the response meets the minimum word length, presents a clear, overarching summary of the data trends in the introduction, and integrates the figures from both the bar chart and the table more cohesively rather than listing them mechanically.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation with paragraphs dedicated to separate export categories, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, repetitive, or mechanically applied, such as starting multiple sentences and paragraphs with repetitive transitional phrases like 'Also', 'However', and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and there is no proper overview paragraph to link the ideas together logically. To improve cohesion, the writer should use a wider variety of referencing words and transitional markers naturally, ensure each paragraph flows smoothly into the next, and structure the report with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a distinct overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, which is characteristic of this band level. Words and phrases such as 'export rate', 'increase', and 'dropped' are overused throughout the text. There are also noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'Agricultural products' being referred to as 'Agriculture products' and inaccurate word choices like 'Textile products' instead of 'Textiles'. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their lexical range by incorporating less common vocabulary, synonyms, and precise paraphrasing, while paying closer attention to word formation and correct collocations in data reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent grammatical errors. There are notable issues with verb tenses and agreement, such as 'In the chart we saw' instead of present tenses appropriate for a current visual, 'petroleum products exports was increase', and 'It was increase by only 0.81%'. Additionally, articles and prepositions are frequently mishandled, as seen in 'export highest amount of product'. To improve grammatical performance, the writer must work on basic subject-verb agreement, ensure correct past and present tense consistency when describing charts, and attempt complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
