Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the export data from 2015 and 2016, and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identify petroleum products as holding the highest account and note the highest percentage increase for textiles. However, some ideas are under-developed or contain inaccuracies in data interpretation. For example, you state that petroleum products accounted for 70 billion dollars in 2015 when the graph shows it was approximately 61 billion dollars, and you misstate the earnings for textiles as 30 to 40 billion dollars. While an overview is attempted in the second paragraph, the data details require greater accuracy and more fully developed comparisons to reach a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a logical division into paragraphs, including an introductory sentence, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs detailing specific categories. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'Overall', 'In 2015', and 'Furthermore'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear. For instance, the transition between sentences in the body paragraphs can feel abrupt, and pronouns or referencing markers lack smooth integration. Paragraphing is present and generally serves to separate ideas, but clearer logical progression throughout would elevate the structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, successfully attempting less common vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'valuation', 'proportion', 'earning', and 'increament'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect limitations in lexical precision, such as 'increament' instead of 'increment', 'holds the highest account', and 'remained same'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they prevent the vocabulary from achieving a higher degree of naturalness, flexibility, and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and comparative structures such as 'which is highest in comparison to other products'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement and prepositional use, such as 'petroleum products holds', 'account with 70 billion dollars', and 'got a 5.18% decrease'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout the response, representing a typical mix of error-containing sentences alongside correct structures.
