Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by discussing the export data for various product categories between 2015 and 2016, but it misinterprets the nature of the data significantly. The student repeatedly mistakes export earnings measured in billions of dollars for percentages (e.g., writing 'petroleum products are 60 %' instead of $61 billion), which severely limits the accuracy and relevance of the information presented. Furthermore, some key features and comparisons are omitted or confused, resulting in a minimal and flawed response to the visual data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The organization of the text is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear, logical progression. Although there is an introductory sentence and an attempt at an overview, the body paragraphs group information haphazardly and fail to guide the reader through the data smoothly. Cohesive devices are used very mechanically or inappropriately, such as repetitive transitions and faulty referencing, which makes the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, with related data points split confusingly across the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'products', 'exports', and 'exported'. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as using 'imported' instead of 'exported' in the overview, and confusing units of measurement by treating billions of dollars as percentages. These limitations and inaccuracies mean the vocabulary is only minimally adequate for the task, resulting in a restricted range of expression that occasionally causes confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting more complex patterns. There are recurring issues with subject-verb agreement, tense consistency (such as shifting awkwardly between past and present forms), and missing articles. Frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues persist throughout the text, although they rarely completely obscure the core meaning, keeping the control of grammar at a basic level.
