Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the prompt by mentioning several categories from the chart, but it fails to present a clear or accurate overview of the main trends. Many of the figures and percentages reported in the text are confused or misread compared to the actual data provided in the visual. For instance, the student states that the export of petroleum goods slightly increased to 8.5% and that engineered goods reached nearly 6.4 billion, which does not accurately reflect the graph values or the percentage change table. Furthermore, some data points are completely misunderstood, such as the claim regarding the fall of gems and jewellery to 5.18%, which actually represents the percentage growth rate rather than the total value. Consequently, the information is presented in a fragmented, partially inaccurate manner, restricting the overall development of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response shows an attempt to organise information into paragraphs, but the overall progression lacks clarity and logical flow. While basic cohesive devices and transition markers such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Along with this' are employed, their use is sometimes mechanical or confusingly linked to the data points. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs often jump disjointed between different years and categories without a clear, guiding structure. The conclusion attempts to summarize the overall findings, but referencing and referencing chains are occasionally unclear, making it somewhat difficult for the reader to follow the exact comparisons being made across the different export categories.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'export', 'category', 'goods', 'increase', and 'rise'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that occasionally impede communication or create unnatural phrasing, such as 'variations in the quantity of exports', 'essentials instead of categories', and confusing percentages with absolute monetary values. Attempts to use less common or academic vocabulary are sparse and often inaccurate, reflecting a vocabulary range that is only minimally adequate for reporting visual data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few awkward attempts at complex or compound constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies (e.g., mixing past and present references like 'are increased' and 'is fall'), incorrect prepositions, missing articles, and faulty clause structures (e.g., sentence fragments like 'Except petroleum products and textiles. because there is a rise...'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also handled poorly in places. These frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control over basic grammatical forms.
