Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by summarising data from both the bar graph and the table, but it only partially covers the requirements. While some main features are mentioned, such as the highest export value coming from petroleum products, the overall information is inadequately developed and contains several factual inaccuracies when compared to the visual data. For example, the text states that textile was the least export and received 'only 15 billion dollars' in 2015, whereas the chart shows the value was actually around 26 billion dollars. Similarly, agricultural goods are reported as having a value of 21 billion dollars in both years, while the chart shows 31 billion dollars for 2015 and 2016. Furthermore, the overview is very basic and the data selection lacks clarity. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to accurately report the figures directly from the visual data without significant misinterpretations and ensure a well-developed overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding data summary, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, with the second paragraph ending abruptly after just two sentences. Cohesive devices are basic, repetitive, and sometimes misused. For instance, the transition 'While, demanding of textiles were increased' is grammatically awkward and poorly linked. Pronoun referencing and referencing words like 'that' are frequently unclear, making the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. To improve cohesion, the writer should use a wider variety of accurate transition signals, ensure paragraphs have a clear thematic focus with well-developed supporting sentences, and establish a logical flow from the introduction through the body details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student attempts to use some less common terms related to data reporting, such as 'earning through exports' and 'percentage', but there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text. Examples include 'earning through exports various categories' (missing preposition), 'demanding of textiles' (incorrect word form), 'nation was made 21 billion dollars' (inappropriate phrasing), and 'gens and jewelry' (spelling error). These lexical inaccuracies and occasional spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use precise terms for describing trends and quantities, and pay closer attention to correct word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that result in faulty grammar. There are numerous grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the response. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('earning through... is' or plural/singular mismatches like 'export categories'), incorrect prepositions ('in 2015 and 2016' used repeatedly where 'between' or 'from... to' is better), and awkward passive/active confusions such as 'nation was made 21 billion dollars'. Frequent errors of this nature cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to practice constructing accurate complex sentences, monitor verb tenses consistently, and eliminate basic grammatical slips.
