Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at 101 words with an incomplete final sentence. Furthermore, the content contains factual inaccuracies regarding the visual data; for instance, the student incorrectly states that gems and jewellery, agriculture, and textiles projected downward trends, whereas the table clearly shows positive percentage changes for agriculture and textiles, and the chart indicates that textiles rose from 26 to 31 billion dollars. Because the response is severely curtailed and incompletely addresses the prompt's requirements, it falls into the lower bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a basic attempt at logical organisation, utilizing introductory framing and transitional phrases such as 'Overall' and 'Turning to'. However, paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the severe curtailment of the response limits the overall progression. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical or repetitive fashion, and referencing becomes unclear towards the end where the text trails off incomplete, preventing a smooth flow of ideas throughout the summary.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate vocabulary range for basic reporting, using terms such as 'illustrates', 'categories', and 'projected downward trends'. There are, however, several notable lexical errors and awkward formations, such as 'bi ions' (billions), 'products and textiles' coordination issues, and minor typographical slips like 'jewelery'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with some inaccuracy in word choice and spelling, but the meaning remains partially accessible despite these limitations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response employs a mix of simple and emerging complex sentence forms, such as 'It can be seen that...' and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, including missing articles ('showed highest figures'), incorrect prepositions and currency symbol placements ('60$ and 55$ bi ions', 'were stood at'), and run-on punctuation issues ('2015 .But In'). These frequent errors and the abrupt ending reflect a limited control of structures at this level.
