Student answer (Band 5.0)
The illustration gives information about different categories of exports of a country during 2015 and 2016. Overall, textiles recorded maximum increase in export in 2016 as textile goods were increased by 15 times.
It is evident from the bar chart that petroleum products increased their export in 2016 as compared to 2015. Engineering goods also grew in 2016 with an elevation of nearly five billion dollars. However, gems and jewellery did not escalate their growth as they faced a loss in their export in 2016. Textile had maximum augmentation in exports.
Meanwhile, petroleum products increased their sales merely by three percent. Although textile registered a huge increase in export which was of about fifteen percent in 2016 with agricultural products having minimum wage of sales as it increased by less than one percent in total. Engineering goods was the second best in terms of exports as it recorded a boost of around nine percent in sales.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, as some information is inaccurate and major trends are misreported. For instance, the claim that textile goods 'were increased by 15 times' misinterprets the 15.24% percentage change provided in the table. Similarly, referring to agricultural products as having a 'minimum wage of sales' is a severe factual confusion regarding the data. An overview is attempted at the beginning, but the selection of features is flawed due to these misunderstandings. To reach a higher level, the response must accurately report the data from the visual source without misinterpreting percentages as absolute multipliers or confusing key economic terms.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response displays some organization with an introductory sentence and paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as starting multiple sentences with 'However' or 'Meanwhile' without establishing a fluid logical connection between the paragraphs. Referencing is also weak, leading to choppy transitions between the bar chart data and the table data. To improve coherence, ideas should be grouped logically by category or trend, and cohesive links should guide the reader smoothly from the introduction through the body details to the conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about increases and decreases in exports. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices that cause confusion for the reader, such as 'minimum wage of sales' instead of lowest percentage growth, and 'maximum augmentation'. Words like 'escalate' and 'elevation' are attempted but applied in slightly unnatural ways. To achieve a higher band, the vocabulary needs to be more precise, using accurate collocations related to economic data and avoiding awkward word formations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently flawed. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and prepositional use, such as 'textile goods were increased' and 'faced a loss in their export'. Frequent errors in grammar and awkward phrasing can cause some difficulty for the reader. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of error-free complex structures and ensure better control over passive voice constructions and pluralization.
