Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response attempts to address the prompt by mentioning several categories from the chart and table, but it fails to present a clear or accurate overview. Many of the reported figures contain major inaccuracies when compared to the visual data, such as stating that petroleum products 'rose upto 6.5 billions' or claiming gems and jewellery declined to '50 billions'. Furthermore, the inclusion of copied text from the prompt accounts for a significant portion of the opening lines without contributing to the substantive reporting of trends. The selection of main features is disjointed, and the relationships between the 2015 and 2016 figures are often confused, leaving the task only partially addressed with limited and inaccurate data points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The writing demonstrates some basic attempts at organisation, dividing the response into short paragraphs that separate the overview, data points, and percentage changes. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical structure guiding the reader through the data. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and often misused, such as starting paragraphs with 'Similarly' or 'Respectively' where they do not logically connect the ideas. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult to follow which data points belong to which years or categories. As a result, the arrangement of information feels disjointed and lacks coherent flow throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily constrained by the student's reliance on simple terms to describe trends. There are frequent word choice and lexical inaccuracies, such as stating that items 'escalate', 'deline', or that the table 'was consist of 5 items'. While some attempts are made to use less common vocabulary related to data trends, these words are often paired with incorrect prepositions or forms. Although the meaning can sometimes be guessed despite these errors, the lexical range remains limited and inadequate for a more precise discussion of statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are persistent mistakes in verb forms and tenses, such as 'it was consist', 'it escalate', 'it was deline', and 'it was rose up', which mix passive and active forms incorrectly. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also unreliable throughout the text. Complex sentence structures are rarely attempted, and when they do appear, they contain noticeable errors that strain the reader's understanding and impede smooth communication.
