Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided visual data, but it suffers from significant misinterpretations and inaccurate data reporting. For instance, the student mislabels the categories as 'sports' and confuses the units and values, stating that 'Textiles also grew upto 20$ billion' when the chart shows 26 billion rising to 31 billion. Furthermore, in the final paragraph, the student contradicts the data by stating that 'textile revenue fell upto 0.81%', whereas the table clearly shows a 15.24% rise for textiles and a 0.81% rise for agricultural products. While an overview is attempted, the limited and inaccurate use of data restricts the development of the response, leading to a partial and somewhat confused treatment of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some overall organization with an introductory paragraph, a body overview, and separate paragraphs for the chart and table data. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical connections between sentences are sometimes weak. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately; for example, transitional phrases do not always appropriately link the conflicting statements in the final paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but grouping information is handled inconsistently, leading to some confusion in how the data from the bar chart and the table are integrated and compared.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate vocabulary range suitable for describing basic trends, such as 'increased', 'rose', and 'declined'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and inappropriate word choices that cause confusion, such as referring to economic export categories as 'sports' and spelling 'jewellery' as 'jewlery'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with mixed success, and errors in word form and spelling occasionally impede communication or require the reader to guess the intended meaning, reflecting a restricted control of lexical features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing relies on a limited range of sentence structures, mostly simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms that are often basic or awkwardly phrased. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding currency placement ('60$ billion' instead of '$60 billion'), missing articles, and prepositional usage. Punctuation and spacing issues are also present throughout the text. These errors occur regularly and can cause some difficulty for the reader, although the basic meaning of simple trend descriptions usually remains discernible.
