Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to describe the export categories and includes an overall statement, but it only minimally reports the chart’s main features. Several figures and trends are seriously misread: petroleum exports were about $61 billion in 2015 and $63 billion in 2016, not $6 billion and $70 billion; engineered goods rose from about $57 billion to $62 billion, while their change was 8.5%, not 3%. Gems and jewellery fell from about $43 billion to $41 billion, rather than rising above $50 billion. The overview also incorrectly identifies textiles as the lowest category in 2016, when agricultural products were approximately equal to textiles at $31 billion. To improve, give a clear overview of the largest and smallest values and the contrasting changes, then report accurate comparisons for each category.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview, and later details. Phrases such as “Overall” and “Further analyzing” signal a move between ideas, and the categories are discussed in roughly separate groups. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the figures and percentage changes are mixed together without a consistent comparison pattern. Some links, including “At the same time” and “while,” do not clearly show how the information relates, and the final sentence combines textiles with an unclear comparison. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview and details, and describe each category in the same order: 2015 value, 2016 value, then direction of change. Clear sentence boundaries would also make the sequence easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “export,” “increase,” “earned,” and “substantial,” so the reader can recognise the general topic. However, the range is basic and several word choices or spelling errors strain understanding: “ratio of change” is not a natural description of percentage change, “consumed” does not fit export earnings, and “petrolum,” “ellustrates,” and “enenering” are misspelled. Phrases such as “higher range” and “greater impact” are also imprecise for describing values in a chart. Aim for accurate, repeated-use terms such as “export value,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling of category names. More precise collocations would make the comparisons clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors frequently make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “petrolum product has higher range” has problems with tense, number, and sentence construction, while “in 2016 it show singnificant increase to much” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase and clear comparison. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “In 2015 gems and jewellery was 5.18 percent export.” Commas and spaces around punctuation are inconsistent, and several sentences run together. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, such as “Petroleum exports rose from $61 billion in 2015 to $63 billion in 2016,” before adding more complex clauses.
