Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the general subject and mentions several categories, but it does not provide a clear overview of the main features or make meaningful comparisons. Most figures are substantially inaccurate: for example, petroleum is reported as 65 and 67 billion dollars rather than approximately 61 and 63, while agricultural earnings are given as 48 instead of about 31. The account of engineered goods and textiles is also unclear, and the percentage changes shown in the table are omitted. The response therefore addresses the task only partially, with limited and under-developed information. It is also 63 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to summarise the chart adequately. Include an overview and select accurate key figures and trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to move through the categories, beginning with petroleum and engineered goods and then mentioning gems, agriculture and textiles. However, the response is presented as one long sentence, so the relationships between the figures are difficult to follow. The phrase “it also rise” has an unclear reference, and the transition into “while agriculture and textiles” does not clearly distinguish the two categories or their values. There is little use of punctuation or linking language to signal comparisons and changes. Organise the response into a short introduction, an overview, and a data paragraph, using clear links such as “by contrast” and “whereas” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “profit,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward for describing a chart. “Make money” and “contribute to profit” are not natural ways to report export values, while “dramatically” overstates small changes. Spelling errors such as “dollards,” “enginner,” and “whle” also reduce clarity. Use precise terms such as “stood at,” “rose to,” “fell to,” and “export revenue,” and check spelling carefully. More varied, accurate vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to connect several ideas in a longer sentence, but control of sentence structure is weak and the reader must work to interpret the information. There are repeated problems with verb forms and agreement, as in “This graphs show” and “earnings … is,” and tense is inconsistent in “it also rise.” Articles and prepositions are also missing or incorrect in phrases such as “of country between 2015 to 2016.” Punctuation is insufficient, with a space before the full stop and no clear sentence boundaries. Use short, complete sentences with consistent past-tense reporting, for example, “Petroleum exports stood at about $61 billion in 2015 and rose to $63 billion in 2016.”
