Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant overall features: petroleum is the leading category, textiles show the strongest rise, and gems and jewellery decline. However, important figures are repeatedly misreported. For example, gems and jewellery were about $43 billion in 2015 and $41 billion in 2016, not $52 billion and $50 billion; textiles were about $26 billion and $31 billion, not $36 billion and $41 billion. The engineering figures are also inaccurate, and the stated percentage rise conflicts with the table. The overview says agriculture had no change, although the table records a small increase of 0.81%. These inaccuracies and the limited, sometimes unclear reporting mean the main features are only partially covered. Check each figure against the visual and distinguish approximate values from percentage changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph of category details, and a concluding summary. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “In 2015” help signal a time comparison. However, progression within the detail paragraph is difficult to follow because several categories and figures are packed into long, loosely connected sentences. Repeated wording such as “increased is” and “decreased is” does not clearly connect the figures to the comparisons. The conclusion also repeats the overview rather than adding a useful synthesis. Grouping the categories into clearer comparisons and using accurate links such as “whereas” or “by contrast” would make the organisation more coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “exports,” “category,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “remain the same,” so the basic meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “biggest earning category,” “rise is an 5%,” and “highest increasing category.” Spelling errors, including “druing,” “higest,” “pertroleum,” and “texttiles,” are noticeable and reduce the clarity and control of the writing. Aim for precise chart language and avoid repeating the same verbs: for example, describe a category as “the highest-earning” and a value as “rose by” a percentage. Proofreading spelling and word forms would also improve readability.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer comparisons, but the longer sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. Examples include “The bar charts shows,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “the petroleum products is,” which also has agreement and article problems. The phrase “increased is an 3%” shows difficulty forming a grammatical comparison, while “the agricultural products remain the same” shifts awkwardly between singular and plural forms. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly where one sentence runs directly into the next. Practise accurate patterns such as “Exports rose from X to Y, an increase of Z%,” and check agreement, articles, and punctuation in each sentence.
